A Christmas Candle

Good morning! Hope your all keeping warm - this weather is horrid!!! I can cope with the frosty crisp mornings but this horrible wet, damp mornings are not for me! Bring back the summer I say!!

Anyway I'm here today to share something a bit different with you today, last year I attempted a few candles for decorative items at Christmas, well as I still had some here I have given them another go - now the idea of melting the image into the candle and I do not get along - it always goes wrong, so I have decided to make a 'cuff' for my candle!

Its turned out much better than I expected! So pleased with the result! I have used the beautiful Santa Lucia - she has been sat on my desk for ages watching me so I just had to make something with her.  She was coloured with copics.  I used my nesties to die cut her and also used the scalloped ovals to layer her.  I added some Memory Box die cuts around the edges to add some character.  I also used my MS punch for the leaves and some flowers from my stash.

The image is held onto the candle but some lace and ribbon that I have stuck with some extra strong glue.  You can't really see it but I then added some spots with stickles all over the candle!!
All in all I love how this has turned out - I'm thinking of keeping her for us for Christmas!!!
I hope you like her too I would like to enter this candle to the following challenges;

A Christmas Anything Goes

Good morning - I know it has been very quiet here recently - too quiet I know- I am sorry but I have been busy - I firstly had some commitments that I needed to take care of and then I had to have a clear up - so anyway I know your thinking - what commitments? well I have been lucky enough to be offered a DT spot at Christmas at Sweet Stampin - I was over the moon when I received the e-mail I couldn't quite believe that I had been chosen to work with such a talented bunch of people!!

So I really hope you will take a look around here at my creation and then pop over to the challenge blog and take a look at the amazing creations from the DT.  The theme for this challenge is

Anything Goes

and we have some wonderful sponsors

and a set of Promarkers from Letraset

So now you have seen the grate prizes on offer let me share with you my creation for this - now I am so far behind with everything this Christmas I think with the mojo running it just did not help but suddenly it came to me to make a special gift for Miss A's teacher.

I used one of the beautiful angels from Lili of The Valley - I have had her for a few years now and every christmas she has to make an appearance! The papers are Bazill Basics Believe stack - I have had to purchase another stack this morning as the papers are just so lovely.  My favourite has to be the kraft colour with the snowflakes! I also went round the edges with TH DI to soften the look.  I also used a few nesties on this project - normally one is my limit!

She was coloured up with copics and then die cut with my nesties.  I added some TH DI around the endues to soften it and keep the theme going through! I also added stickles to her wings to make her sparkle.  Now I guess your wondering why I think this creation is so special?!?  Take a look at the inside.

Yep I have made a little candle box for Miss A's Teacher.  I am somewhat impressed with it - I have to say I did take the long route with it though! plus with loosing track of time with it all it took me a lot longer than I expected.  once again the papers on the inside are from the same stack as before.  The candle box was one that I made a couple of weeks ago that I have stuck down using silicone.

I just had to add a sentiment on the inside and so I chose one from a Personal Impressions set called 'snow is falling' I purchased a while back - I die cut it and then added more DI around the edges.  Well I hope you like my creation I would like to enter this into the following challenges;

Lexis Creations - Christmas
Make It Monday - Anything Goes
Totally Stampalicious - Anything But A Card
Top Tip Tuesday - Christmas

Thanks for stopping by - I do hope you will join us with this challenge at Christmas at Sweet Stampin! I can't wait to see your creations! If you have a moment I would love to know what you think! Hope to see you soon

A Warming Candle

Good Morning - brrr its so very very chilly and the weather looks well odd!! Yesterday when I looked out there were leaves on the tree in out garden and today - well little to none left on it! Anyway I'm not here to discuss trees and leaves but I am here to share with you a candle I have recently made! I just fell in love with this image when I saw a friend on Facebook colour it - I just had to have her.  This is the beautiful Winter Fairy Talva from Mo's Digital Pencil.

You can see exactly why I fell for her - she is just so adorable! I coloured her with copics and die cut her with my nesties.

I used some of the gorgeous webbing from That Craft Place and the ribbon is from my stash.  I also had to squeeze the beautiful Memory Box die cut in there too! Well I hope you like her! I would like to enter this candle into the following challenges;

Crazy Amigo - Colours of Winter
Crafty Bloggers Network - Christmas Anything Goes

Thanks for stopping by - hope to see you again soon

Simply Challenged Challenges

Because Im enjoying the challenges so much I keep thinking of more and more that I want to try!!! There was someone that left  a comment on a previous post tarts really made me smile - I was left thinking I had to make another one of these…..

Yep I have done another candle (It will be posted as soon as I find a way to trust royal mail with it to someone very inspiring!) I did this one slightly different this time though!  Rather than circles I used ovals!

The web die cuts (they are actually corner dies put together!) are from the cheery lynn set I purchased from that craft place last week

I love the image - she is Witchy Wednesday from Simply B Stamps - she is a pleasure to colour! The image was coloured with copics

E000, E00, E02,
W4, W5

Glowing Beautifully

Afternoon! oh today is feeling like such a long day - roll on getting into bed tonight!
So I have been trying to keep busy and make stuff but nothing has been going as I want it to - so I thought about having a nap - and then I decided that if I nap - well its unproductive and so I decided that I would try to make a 2nd entry to the 13 Days of Halloween Challenge over at Simply Challenged Challenges and I came up with this….

Yep I have decorated a candle - I originally wanted to do the whole tissue paper and melt it in but it went terribly wrong - so after scraping some of the wax off I went back to the drawing board, then I spent time searching on the internet and I became inspired by Carrie over on the Simply Challenged Challenges 13 days of Halloween challenge and thought I had to try!

OK so I know its not exactly 'flame friendly' but the whole design can be removed so you can still burn the candle! Im actually going to keep it as a Halloween decoration - I think I may have a box of them by the end of this halloween!!! (At least I will be ready for next year!)

The image is the gorgeous Witchy Wednesday from the Sweet Gothic Kids Halloween.  I coloured her with copics and then die cut her.  I then used die cuts that a lovely friend sent me!! The ribbon and webbing were from the internet!  Well I hope you like her! I will be doing more like this! It was lots of fun to do! I would like to enter this candle to the following challenges;

Broken Box Stock - Halloween
Inspire Me Fridays - Anything Goes

Thanks for stopping by - Hope to see you again soon!

Top Tip Tuesday #64 - A gift....

Morning all, well as I'm still posting you may have guessed that were still in the old house, still no news other than we have till Thursday to exchange.... chances of that happening... 50/50 at the moment, I will be glad once I know if I'm going before or after Christmas, we still don't have a tree up and my eldest is asking where it is! Her other question is 'how will father christmas know where were living?' I had to tell her that I will text him on Christmas eve to let him know... Hubby just raised his eyebrows when I said this... well what was I meant to say?!

Anyway I'm here to share with the the FAB challenge over at Top Tip Tuesday this week, I know its the turn of the other team but I decided to play along as I needed to keep my mind off of packing my house up too soon - although there is a lot to pack! and so this week we are looking for your;

Gifts....

This can be something you have made to give as a gift or an image of something/someone with a gift.
We have three wonderful sponsors this week;

Photobucket

Simon Says Stamp are offering a $20 gift voucher for their store!

Robyns Fetish are offing four stamps of the winners choice from the store!

Please snag either blinkie

Di's Digi Downloads are offering 1 prize of 5 digi stamps!

Wow there are loads of prizes this week! How amazing.... join in and maybe you could grab yourself an early Christmas present!

 Now I will tell you I struggled to do this challenge as I wanted to make a gift for a special friend... But I make cards and not much else, I'm not one to spend hours trying to make something that I know I'm not going to be happy with at the end! But I have seen so many people making the gorgeous candles at the moment I just had to give it a shot!

I did have to do this slightly different to the the tutorials I have seen, due to the move I don't have any tissue paper or a heat gun, so I improvised and used a Kleenex tissue that I split the layers down so it was one sheet thick rather than three! I then used my old hairdryer to heat it up! It did go slightly wrong, I had planned on using the sheet as one and slowly heating the candle to make it stick but before I started the tissue ripped and so I had to cut it into sections and then I spilt a glass of water on the side - Note to self, no drink and crafting at the same time!

(Please note if you haven't decorated a candle before you will need to cover the candle with baking paper before heating your image (placed on the candle baking paper over the top and heat!) and please please please watch your little crafting hands as it hurts if you burn them as I have found out!!!! )

This is how my design started before being put on the candle!

I did decide after taking the picture to colour the reindeer, I did that using my copic marker, you do need to be careful when you get close to the edges of the image as I did find the colour would bleed out.  But it didn't show too much after it was put on the candle, you also need to cut as close as you can to the image as it mean you need to heat less.

I used a wonderful stamp set from Woodware called Winter Wonderland. It has sat in my stash this year, as its a bunch of lovely images its one that comes out time after time, you can make something as detailed or as simp as you want from it!

I have spent a few days searching for the right image(s) to use to decorate the candle, I tried to colour various images wanting something Christmasy for a friend of mine (this is a little something to thank her for all her help recently!). But everything was too detailed or I found when colouring that it would bleed too much and so I thought this set was perfect as its mainly silhouettes, I have to say I think I was on a mad one the day I purchased the candle (its a 70 hr church candle so quite big!)!

I decided that I would make it look a bit more gift like by wrapping it, I did 'attempt' to make a hexagonal box for it to go in, but after attempt two I 'threw' my paper out the pram and have up! I think I was seriously trying to push my own boundaries today by doing that.

So yes, it simply got wrapped in some cellophane that looks like its snowing! I thought it fitted the candle rather nicely, as you can see i also added a handmade gift tag just to finish it off and so it was ready to give! The ribbon was from my stash and I thought a little red bow finished it nicely, made it look more Christmasy!

I have to say I'm quite impressed with what I created, even if i do have very burnt hands from my hairdryer.  Im even considering adding a bit of glitter to this one to 'jazz it up' a bit! but it shows that anything is possible when you have limited bits and pieces - and trying something new isn't always that bad!

I would like to do another candle but not sure how soon, my hands were covered in wax and a bit sore by the time I finished and so I think it may be a 'wait till the new house' job!

I would like to enter this candle into the following challenges;

2 Sisters - Christmas
Crafty Calendar - Cold and Frosty
Di's Digi Designs Challenge - All White Except the Image
Just Some Lines - Handmade gift
